Natural gas has a number of distinct advantages over gasoline, kerosene, and other heating oils. It is a cleaner burning, readily available source of energy that companies such as Triple Diamond Energy Corp. deliver to consumers every day of the year. But natural gas doesn’t find its way to your house on its own. A complex system called a distribution network organizes and facilitates every step of the way, from deep under the ground to the comfort of your home.
From The Well To Your Doorstep
It all begins at the source – where the gas itself is found. Whether the natural gas is being extracted from under the ground or under the ocean floor, a gas well breaks through to the area containing this precious commodity. Once access has been achieved, a series of pipes is inserted into these “gas fields” to route the gas up and out of the reservoir, where it can begin its journey towards the people and businesses that need it.
Once out of the reservoir, one of two things happens to the natural gas that has been extracted. Either it is sent to a network of smaller pipes that work its way to a storage facility, businesses, or to individual houses in your neighborhood, or it is routed to a power plant instead. If the gas goes there, it is converted into electrical energy to serve customers who choose not to use natural gas as their energy source of choice.
If natural gas found by a company like Triple Diamond Energy Corp. is piped to your house, you can be sure it passes through a meter first, where it will be carefully tracked so that the gas company can bill you appropriately at the end of the month. Once in your home’s pipe system, it will be used for heating purposes or for cooking by those who have gas stoves.
How Gas Gets To Hard To Reach Areas
IBut what about those people who live in remote or rural parts of the country, where a network of natural gas pipelines may not exist? The solution is propane, a special liquefied gas product that can be put into a tank and driven anywhere it is needed. Propane, a petroleum-based energy source, is created when crude oil is refined into other products.
The reason that an oil derivative such as propane is used rather than natural gas in this situation is a matter of convenience and general utility. To liquefy natural gas for transport requires extremely low temperatures and a special type of fuel tank, which makes natural gas an inefficient choice for portable storage. On the other hand, all it takes to liquefy propane gas is a slight increase in pressure. For this reason, it is important that the oil and natural gas that Triple Diamond Energy Corp. produces is converted into the fuel source that is most appropriate for the end consumer.
